TEAM LEAD: Kim Erwin

FOCUS AREA: Covid-19 Testing

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Today, many organizations are responding a the pace of this pandemic by standing up Covid-19 testing sites within hours of making a decision. The result is an amazing effort, but one that leaves little time for hospitals, health systems, and doctors to communicate about best practices.

EDC designer Kim Erwin has been conducting a rapid-cycle mapping of various testing processes. This is part of our work to find, digest, and simplify best practices and create a playbook of solutions for testing.

INSIGHTS

  • There are 4 key parts of the current processes:

    • Planning - where and how to get to testing? What determines who is eligible?

    • Accessing - how does someone access a test site? What is the process like? What are the safest designs for testing?

    • Diagnosing - how are specimens collected? Where do they go? How do they get processed?

    • Communicating - Who gets the results and when? How do follow-up instructions get delivered?

WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS!

We have teams forming now to dig into these challenges through a series of 1-2 week sprints. If you have subject matter expertise or experience in human centered design, reach out and join the effort.

APPENDIX

This work builds on the excellent work of many organizations and individuals including Verily’s Community Testing Guide, North York General Hospital (and EDC collective member Sean Molloy), and Davita.
